The Pregnancy Journey Series - Baby Shower

The Robinson Baby Shower

Bump & I

I predicted that my third trimester would be hard, so I set my baby shower date for when I was 28 weeks rather than closer to my due date. I’m so glad I made this call. At 28 weeks I still had some energy, I was able to move around (kind of) and be on my feet. My family hosted a beautiful shower for Chris and I. We asked for a shower that included all of our loved ones, not just girls. The shower was for both of us, not just me. I loved it, I got to share the fun moments with our friends, and with the man I love and Father of my son.

The flowers from the local market went perfectly with the Paddington theme.

I briefly talk about this in ‘Almost there...’ post in this series (to be released soon!). I wanted to do a separate post on the details because I feel the event deserves it. My family put so much thought into the event I wanted to share it with you all.

Little details - Paddington Bear prints and flowers from the local markets

My sister came up with the idea of Paddington Bear theme. Chris and I were doing our best to not go for the obvious boy things, so we loved this idea. Plus he’s a book character that we could then bring into his nursery once he arrives.

The amazing food put together by my Mum

My Mum put on a great spread, with a light food table that could feed the thousands (my Mum is kinda famous for over catering – but aren’t all Mum’s!). Chris is vegetarian and she acknowledged this with most of the food being conscious of this. We then had English sweets (including my favourite, lemon bonbons 😀) and biscuits with goody bags so guests could build their own bags to take home. This was awesome and gave our guests the chance to enjoy some of my favourite childhood sweets. We then included some Kiwi classics to recognise Chris' NZ heritage too.

We had many giggles reviewing the guests guesses at the size of bump – with many thinking I was much bigger than I actually was – thanks guys! Many laughs followed with our friends and family building nappies with toilet paper on their partners. It was a special day, and I will treasure it forever.

Oh, so you think I'm that big aye?!

We purposely didn’t buy any toys, books or much clothing, knowing people would most likely gift these at the shower. This is definitely something I suggest to new parents out there.  Buy the odd cute outfit, or a special book if you see one. But try to hold back on those sorts of items when you're baby shopping as these are typical shower and birth gifts from loved ones.

It was so much fun opening the gifts together. This is special handmade gift from my close friend  - which is now in his nursery.

Those that purchased books we asked them to write a message on the inside cover for him to look back on. I got this idea from my first fairytale book my grandparents gave me with a cute note on the inside from them. It means the world to me as its something I can physically touch that they gave to me as a child. I can see their love for me in those words, and wanted to give this to our son too. So if you’re buying a book for a child, do write a little note for them on the inside cover, this gives the gift a personal touch and quite often the child feels a closer connection to the book because of it.

Playing around with the photo props!

Lastly, enjoy your shower (if you have one), this is the last chance you will have (in a long time) when its all about you!! Take in the attention and have fun!

Much love
