The Pregnancy Series - Nursery Styling
Nursery Styling
We have styled our house with the idea in the back of our heads that this isn’t our forever home. This is our first home, so we have gone for a simple neutral palette, and then used décor items and furniture to give a personal touch. That being said, the nursery is a different story.
This little fox was handmade by my dear friend, and goes perfectly in Archer's Woodland Nursery |
It was important to us to create a space for him, a safe place that was his own. We see our master bedroom as our special place, for us (the dogs kinda think its their special place too!). With this in mind we came up with the idea of creating a woodland theme room, the thought being this be a nod to my English heritage and my childhood spent playing and going on picnics in Windsor Great Park. My brother then offered to come up with some characters for the room, this then grew to become a wall in the nursery with woodland creature characters that are one of a kind.

The nursery layout is designed so the woodland wall is opposite to the cot, and next to the nursing chair. The idea being that he can sit and read a book and look at the wall. It’s a beautiful piece of art that has been painted by hand. Makes my heart warm when I see him glance at the wall and smile, makes the 6 days of painting my brother did so worth it!

From there we added little pieces around the room, my friend did some stitching and made a beautiful fox. We have then added some personal items from us, a fairytale book that my grandparents gave to me, and a silver cup and spoon from Chris’s Dad. The personal touches have made the room feel more us and special, which I love .
The fairytale book from my childhood, as well as an aeroplane money box as dedication to his Great Poppa whom is no longer with us. |
The biggest challenge was actually finding drawers that we liked and went with the room. I’m still not totally happy with the drawers and am internally weighing up whether to paint them or not. For now, they do the job! We managed to find a great bargain at Farmers with these solid mango wood drawers that will last him ages. And, because there is no plastic covering on the wood we can revamp them with some paint (when I finally decide to do it) rather than having to buy new ones or worry about chipping.

Since Archer has been born I have re-organised where things go about 3 times already, all because his needs are forever changing. Babies develop so quickly and their needs change along the way, so try to keep in mind when designing your nursery that you will need to make changes. We invested in a cot that can be in bassinet, cot and first bed mode. In the long run this will save us money on furniture and sheets. Gives him something to grow in and will make the transition from cot to bed easier - hopefully!!
Trying my best to keep the nursery tidy - its an ongoing task! When in bassinet mode the cot has enough space underneath to store toys and sheets, helping us keep things organised. |
I’m proud that we have been able to create a space that is his and will help him grow.
Remember, it’s the little details and personal touches that make a house a home.
